Product Description

Designed to strike awe and terror into Rebels hearts, the Imperial Star Destroyer and the rest of the Empires fleet of space vessels maintain order in the galaxy through shows of power and ruthless fighting tactics. This massive (23-inches when assembled) Lego space ship, based on the Star Wars craft, will be a feather in the cap of any self-respecting Lego buff. With 1,366 pieces and a top and sides that swing open to reveal the inner workings, construction of the kit will be an adventure in itself. Once built, the Imperial Star Destroyer will provide hours more of play, as fans re-enact scenes from the millennia of fictional Star Wars history, or even create new battles and alliances in conjunction with other Lego Star Wars kits (Jabbas Sail Barge, the B-Wing Fighter, etc.).

Kids (and adults) will love discovering the multiple gadgets within: a platform for Darth Vader to talk to a hologram of the Emperor, a meditation chamber for Darth Vader with a crane to remove his helmet, turbo laser cannons on the bridge that really discharge, an escape shuttle releases in case of emergency, a storage closet for Stormtrooper rifles, and a bridge that slides open. Nine mini-figures are included (Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, two Stormtroopers, two Emperors Royal Guard, Imperial Officer, R2-D5, and Mouse Droid). --Emilie Coulter

This Imperial Star Destroyer will provide hours of play, allowing fans to re-enact scenes from various Star Wars movies.

As I grew up with Legos also, I found this to be surprisingly expensive for a Lego set. However, it is truly what he wanted for his birthday and he has gotten a tremendous amount of satisfaction and enjoyment out of not only building it, but playing with it and inviting friends, family and anyone else around to check it out. This ship took about eight hours to put together by one person. It was bought for my six year old who wanted to interact with it and got very upset when it starting falling apart the minute he tried to open certain parts of it. I then spent several hours putting glue on all the major parts to prevent it from totally falling apart. I would say this is more for display purposes rather than play.

Pros - Fun build
- Nice assortment of figures included
- looks great

Cons - Cost, This set is not in production and will cost anywhere from $170 on up. With tax and shipping you can easily spend twice the ammount of the original MSRP if not more
- Design, The ship is constructed in such a way that you must remove the upper portion to play inside it. To me this detracts from it asteticly. The Republic ship currently out now has a better design. I suppose this is to be expected as this set is several years older.
- On a very minor note the weapons the are included are the old style stud type.
the weapons that are included in todays sets are much more apealing to me.

In closeing, despite the few short commings I have mentioned I would recomend this set to anyone who wants the Star Destroyer and missed out on it when it was out originaly. Unless Lego reissues it, this set is the only way you will get a Star Destroyer if you want one for your collection.

My grandson(8) loves the Imperial Star Destroyer. He is our resident expert on Star Wars. Although it is very complex and very detailed inside and out, he put it together in a day. Yes, I am bragging but building it was just the beginning of the fun. The Destroyer is so well equipped (inside and out) that it provides endless inspiration for his imagination.
Clever design, lots of fun to build, but the bottom falls out

This was a lot of fun to build. This is our first big Lego set and I was thrilled that all the pieces were in the box. With 1300+ pieces, many of them special, I'm impressed that Lego gets this right. Along the way I thought a piece was missing in the kit but each time it was operator error!

Most of the constructed kit is solid construction. Lego seemed to focus on the frame of the ship for sturdiness. The only drawback is that the bottom of the model is attached weakly to the main structure, and gravity works against the attachments. There are only six connection points involved. On top of that the engines elevates the bottom from the table so this makes the problem worse. I think some reengineering on my part can resolve the issue.

We got this as a door-buster for Thanksgiving so that was the only way we would have bought it - $179 is too much to pay.
Awesome toy but a bit pricey

Reviewer: pippy longstocking,
I got this toy for christmas and I was so excited I could'nt wait. The disign of this toy was Awesome and you can put the three peaple in the launcher except R2-D5. The other pros are that the disigners lable the wrappers, the launcher works, you can open the ship in three easy steps and the disign is great; and the cons are you can't use the robot to take Darth Vader's mask off that well. But, this toy say it's worth it to get and if you have mini figes or if you builded mini figes then it well be a lot more fun. I hope you like it.
